This Italian chocolate cookies recipe is delicious dipped in milk or tea. These are chocolate cookies with a little hint of ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon for flavor. I add in raisins, dark chocolate chips, and walnuts to make these cookies more hearty. They are simply delicious! Everyone in my family loved these cookies because they aren’t too sweet and you can really taste the flavor of the cocoa.
Ingredients for Italian Chocolate Cookies:
- 3 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger powder
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup softened unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup raisins
Directions for Italian Chocolate Cookies:
Step 1) Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2) Sift 3 cups flour, baking powder, sugar, ginger powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and cocoa in a medium sized bowl.
Step 3) Mix softened butter in a large bowl on low speed. Add milk and vanilla and mix until incorporated.
Step 4) Gradually add dry ingredients into wet. Mix with spoon until combined. Add walnuts, raisins and chocolate chips.
Step 5) For each cookie, roll 1 inch ball of dough and place on a greased or parchment lined baking sheet. Don’t flatten the dough balls.
Step 6) Bake about 10 minutes or until cookies are lightly brown.
Step 7) Let cookies cool and enjoy!
Optional: If you’re a chocolate lover you can drizzle chocolate on top of these Italian chocolate cookies. Simply heat the chocolate over a double boiler or in the microwave and drizzle on top of cookies. I didn’t do this to mine because the dark chocolate chips in the cookies were enough.
