Ginger has been used for many centuries in Asian cultures because of it’s wonderful healing properties. It can be used as a sore throat remedy. Since most people don’t like eating raw ginger because it’s strong taste, I have a recipe for a ginger tonic that is pleasant to drink. Growing up my mother used to make this tonic for me when I was sick to clear the sinuses, congestion, and coughing. I still make this tonic every time I’m sick because it works very well. When I have a cold I drink this tonic everyday when the symptoms are bad (Usually for 3 days). For this recipe, ginger is the main healing ingredient, lemon juice is added for vitamin c, and honey is added for it’s immunity boosting properties.
This sore throat remedy is made with fresh grated ginger, fresh lemon or lime, and honey. The following recipe makes 2 servings.
2 inches of fresh ginger (peeled and grated)
1.5 cups boiling water
Juice of 1 lemon or lime
1 tablespoon honey
Sore Throat Remedy Directions:
Step 1) Boil water in sauce pan on medium heat
Step 2) Peel and grate/chop ginger. Add to saucepan when water is boiling
Step 3) Cook ginger and water for 10 minutes on low-medium heat
Step 4) Strain ginger and let cool. (*Optional – For a more potent tonic place cooked ginger and water in high speed blender) Add honey and lemon juice.
Step 5) Drink and feel better!
